Prof. Dr. Hartmut Aden
Prof. Dr. Hartmut Aden is the speaker of the HWR Competence Centre: Challenges and Resilience of Global Supply and Value Chains. Within the project, he also co-leads Cluster C together with Daniela Hunold, Matthias Kötter, Vincenz Leuschner, and Markus Schultze-Kraft. This cluster explores the resilience of legal and illegal global value and supply chains in the context of security, contestation, accountability, and the rule of law. Within Cluster C, he and Matthias Kötter serve as work package leaders for WP3: Resilience of Global Supply and Value Chains within Constellations of Accountability and the Rule of Law. Since April 2009, Prof. Aden has been a Professor at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR Berlin), since 2016 he is Professor of German and European Public Law, Public Policy and Public Administration. He co-founded the Berlin Institute for Safety and Security Research (FÖPS Berlin) and served at its deputy director from 2016 to 2020. He also served as Data Protection Officer at HWR Berlin (2011-2020) and as Vice President for Research of HWR Berlin from April 2020 to June 2024. His expertise covers European and German public law, public administration and public policy, including comparative perspectives. His research and teaching comprise questions related to internal security including transnational cooperation, human rights and data protection, legal and social science perspectives on emerging technologies, to accountability and complaints systems in different issue areas (GSVC, police, data protection; financial accountability in multilevel systems) and environmental law and policy.
